The HMS Bounty, which sank Monday off North Carolina in the hurricane Sandy.

HURRICANE SANDY UPDATE. Tall ship HMS Bounty sank off the North Carolina coast, as it came into the zone of hurricane Sandy, the Washington Post reported. Coast guards were searching for two missing people that were passengers aboard the Bounty when it sank. 14 people from the ship made it into the lifeboats, after the vessel lost power in the hurricane and took in water.

The HMS Bounty, a three-masted sailing ship that has appeared in two Hollywood movies, was reportedly sailing from Connecticut to St. Petersburg, Fla., when it began taking on too much water and lost propulsion Sunday night, the Post reported.

According to the ship’s website, it was approaching the United States eastern coast from northeast over the Atlantic and ended up in the path of the hurricane.
